Coming soon the really really ALL NEW Recovering DJ!
Back in my day, and maybe they still do it…when a radio station was getting ready to change formats they would traditionally play the same song over and over again in an endless loop for a week or so.
It kept the station on-air and it was a good way to create buzz about what the station’s new direction might be. One popular tune used for this task was R.E.M’s ” It’s The End of the World as We Know it (and I Feel Fine)”
In fact, according to Wikipedia ( and I was actually there for the first event) “In 1992 and again in 1999, Cleveland, Ohio radio station WENZ played the song continuously for several days as a stunt used to draw attention to the station’s format change to and from alternative rock (nicknamed “The End”).
So while I can’t figure out how to play it continuously…I’m hoping the essense of the exploit will come through.
